Introduction to Critical Incident Stress Management, (I-CISM)

This 1-2 hour presentation is designed to familiarize the participant with the "Mitchell Model" of  Critical Incident Stress Management. Critical incidents are defined, an overview of different strategies to deal with the aftermath of such incidents and CISM team member roles are outlined.

Critical Incident Stress Management-Basic, (CISM-B)

The two day Basic Team Building Seminar is a dynamic experience in the world of Emergency Services.  The graphic nature of the work itself is portrayed through video and slides, as well as the after effects that one might normally experience following a traumatic event.  This course prepares mental health professionals and peer support personnel to deal with, and provided services before, during, and after a critical incident.

Utilizing Dr. Jeffrey Mitchell's intervention strategies which have been proven to accelerate the recovery of normal people having expected reactions to a traumatic event.

This two day Basic CISM training is recognized by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation and is open to any person who wishes to know more about crisis intervention strategies for emergency personnel.  Emergency service personnel and mental health professionals are typical participants.

When the student has successfully completed this course,
the student will be able to...

  1. Discuss the psychological impact of crisis on the emergency worker
  2. Identify CISM Team Members
  3. Demonstrate debriefing skills in a simulated formal debriefing
  4. Discuss behavioral changes associated with stress response syndrome
  5. Discuss the implementation of CISM within an organization or community

Critical Incident Stress Management-Beyond Basic, (CISM-BB)

This 2 day program is designed for the experienced CISM Basic trained individual who wants to expand their knowledge in the area of CISM. The program covers critical incidents such as symbolic trauma, suicides, traumatic death at the work place, mass casualty incidents, dealing with the media and other advanced topics. The program is based on Dr. Jeffrey Mitchell's CISM concepts and  first hand experience from in managing a very large, active, volunteer CISM team that responds to  emergency services in the Tampa Bay area for many years.

Critical Incident Stress Management for Managers, (CISM-M)

This half-day workshop is for individuals who manage employees in a work setting environment. The course covers identifying those employees who are at risk or who show signs and symptoms related to critical incident stress, how to identify appropriate resources and defines the nature of critical incidents.
